Getting started

Sign in, make a notebook, add a source and ask a question

1. Sign in

Sign in with the email and password of your account. If you forget the password, use Forgot Password? on the sign-in page. Sign-ups are closed for now: if you don't have an account yet, choose Request access.

If your server offers single sign-on

Above the password form, the sign-in page also offers Continue with single sign-on, the site owner's single sign-on. It works only for people the owner has allowed to use it; anyone else is refused on the single sign-on page and signs in with their password. It signs you in to the account with the same email address, if that account's address is confirmed: an account made with this site's sign-up form isn't, so the page says "Account not confirmed"; sign in to it with its password, or ask the site owner. If you have no account, the page says "No account for this address". It allows 30 attempts a minute from one network, and each sign-in counts as two.

Forgot Password? emails you a link to choose a new password. The link works once and expires in 30 minutes, and one address is sent at most 3 links an hour. A new password needs at least 8 characters, and setting it signs out your other browsers and devices within 24 hours. After 5 sign-in attempts in a minute, the page asks you to wait a minute.

If someone invited you to their workspace, the email or link they sent opens the invitation: choose Sign in to accept, then Accept invitation. You need an account first, and an emailed invitation can be accepted only by the account with that address. See Workspaces and sharing.

Getting around

The narrow bar on the left, the rail, holds everything:

  • Home at the top: your notebooks.
  • Notes below it: every note in the workspace (see Notes).
  • Your workspaces below it, one tile each, and + to make another.
  • The bell near the bottom: Notifications.
  • Your avatar at the bottom opens the menu: Workspace (switch workspace, manage members, workspace settings, and delete or leave the workspace), User settings, Connect your agent (see Connect your agent), Notifications, theme, language, Learn more (this documentation) and Logout.

On a phone, the menu button at the top left opens the same things as a sheet.

You can own up to 400 workspaces. You can't delete or leave your only workspace. See Workspaces and sharing.

2. Create a notebook

On the home page, choose Create notebook. It opens straight away as an untitled notebook. You don't have to name it: an untitled notebook names itself after its first source or your first question. You can rename it at any time by editing the title, and change its emoji from the header.

3. Add a source

Choose Add sources, or drop files anywhere on the notebook. You can:

  • upload files from your computer,
  • pick documents already in your workspace,
  • pick files from Google Drive or Nextcloud (once it is connected),
  • paste a link to a web page with Read a web page, or
  • type a query in Search the web for new sources and import results.

Each source is read and indexed in the background. It shows as "Still being indexed" until it is ready. See Notebooks and sources.

4. Ask

Once a source is ready, the chat offers suggested questions. Pick one or type your own. Answers come from your sources, with numbered citations you can click to see the passage. See Chat and citations.

5. Make something

In Studio, pick an output: an audio overview, a mind map, a quiz and so on. It takes a few minutes and appears in the Studio list when ready. See Studio.
